Islamabad Wiki

islamabad.wetpaint.com

This is a site I set up in 2007 as a class project for high school Business and Accounting students. It was also in response to the lack of information about the city we lived in, the few that were available were aimed at tourists. This wiki was designed for the expats and newly arrived residents. But it is open to the public so you can recommend your favorite restaurant and shop owners can add their photo and address.

It seriously needs updating since we left Pakistan in 2009. I am calling on the good people of Islamabad to make this site relevant and current. Please sign up as a member and start posting!

Same Difference

My initial impressions of Lagos is that it is a lot like Philippines and many developing countries in terms of infrastructure like roads. Unfortunately this usually means cracks and potholes, especially after heavy rains.

Another common characteristic it seems of developing economies is the ubiquity (or ubiquitousness?) of street vendors and sidewalk stalls. Except for the men here this photo could have been taken in Asia, for example. Notice the electrical connections, too.

But this port city does have some scenic features, such as the waterways and bridges between the mainland and the islands of Lagos, Victoria, and Ikoyi. So while I miss seeing the Margalla Hills of Islamabad, I am once again enjoying seeing the water when we drive out.

We're Not in Islamabad Anymore Toto

Since August 2009 we have been calling flat in Lagos' Victoria Island as home. Yes, after four memorable years in Islamabad, Pakistan we have moved on and now live and work in Nigeria.

Six on Two

This is a familiar sight not only in Thailand, but also here in Pakistan: a family somehow managing to fit on one motorcycle. This is a new record for me nonetheless: father, mother, and four kids! And only Dad is wearing a helmet.
